Overwhelming Positive!
Today in the first part of the newsletter I'm making something a little different than usual, a list of indie games that have 'overwhelmingly positive' reviews on Steam but are not the usual well-known ones.
A Castle Full of Cats and his twin brother A Building Full of Cats is a classic hidden objects game where you need to find and pet all the cats in various scenarios. We all know why this has so many great reviews… CATS! (Steam Deck Verified!)
Next, CULTIC. It is a great FPS with some solid action and some interesting twists in the gameplay to make it different from the classic boomer FPS, in pixel art, that is dominating the FPS scenes these days. (Steam Deck Verified!)
What about a puzzle game? Patrick's Parabox is CRAZY! Is a recursive puzzle game about boxes within boxes within boxes within boxes.
Last Command is a fast-paced bullet hell mixed with a snake game with a good art style. It’s hard, you’ll die a lot!
Before your Eyes is a first-person narrative adventure where you control the story—and affect its outcomes—with your real-life blinks. Be advised, It will make you cry a lot.
Ugly but good.
In the ugly but good series, today I present Approaching Infinity.
Don't be fooled by the graphical quality, the game is very deep. It is a roguelike space adventure that is both accessible and fairly deep.
It's a combination of space exploration, inside our ship, and exploration on planets. Like in a good Star Trek episode, we can choose the team with which to go down to the planets to explore them, meet new alien species and collect information, materials and useful objects.
There are so many enemies and the fauna of the planets is incredibly complex and interesting. Each animal/monster has its own behaviour that we have to learn about.
The game has had a troubled life, it has many years behind it despite being published in Early Access on Steam. Basically, it was blocked for years due to an open dispute with the publisher. Once the dispute was resolved, the developer was able to reacquire the game and was finally able to publish it on Steam. Don't be fooled by its EA status, it is perfectly playable and complete, despite this it is constantly evolving and being updated and the developer is also very attentive to community feedback.
You can think of it as ADOM in space and if you don’t know ADOM well, shame on you!
